Learn How To Manage Anger By Getting Rid Of Unhelpful Beliefs

Learning to manage your anger is a necessity, and it is a necessity that becomes all the more apparent when you have a child. Some parents feel that their children are uniquely skilled at provoking anger. However, by learning to get rid of beliefs that perpetuate an anger response, parents can learn to better manage their anger. Learn with Core Success, what those beliefs are, and how to overcome them. Try our Parenting Success series to learn the skills you need as a parent.

Beliefs About Anger That Lead To Poor Anger Management

Core Success identifies three common beliefs that lead to poor anger management. These beliefs are anger equals power, it just makes me so angry, and anger is the best motivator. Some parents feel that anger should give them power, or that anger will motivate their children to act better. Some parents have a fear response that makes them react with anger. Core Success helps parents learn how these beliefs are unhelpful. We then encourage parents to substitute old beliefs about anger with new, empowering beliefs.

Empowering Belief #2:

My response is always my choice.

Allow yourself to acknowledge that your responses are internally generated, not externally driven. You are always in control of how you respond. When you trust in your abilities and are sure of your decisions, you don’t need to be angry. Even if you don’t like what’s happened, you don’t have to let anger distract you from finding a solution. Parents, you will find that this empowering belief gives you more of a sense of control than anger ever could.
